What is this solution about?
Primary care providers can consult with an Ontario dermatologist, receiving timely advice for patients within an average of 5 days, often eliminating the need for an in-person referral. OTN’s Telederm program is available at no cost to health care providers or patients, and is part of Ontario’s publicly funded health care system.
How it works:
- With a digital camera, a photo is taken of the patient’s skin condition.
- Photo and patient information are uploaded to TeledermSF.
- Dermatologist reviews the case and responds to the requesting provider.
- Requesting Provider implements the treatment plan.
“I personally have had two consults now with the Dermatologist and have been thrilled with the results. One actually came back the same day I sent it. She lays out the differential diagnoses, advises if biopsy necessary to determine correct diagnosis, and then provides outline of therapeutic plan for each possible outcome. Clear as can be, and so helpful. Patients are thrilled.”
Teledermatology is a service of the Ontario eConsult Program which also includes the Ontario eConsult service, Champlain BASE™ regional service, and Teleophthalmology. The Ontario eConsult program has been created with the support of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
