COVID-19 Information and Updates: Content

Virtual care is a powerful tool in Ontario’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Phone consultations, emails, text messaging, remote monitoring and video visits allow care providers and patients to connect safely at a distance, minimizing the risk of community infection.

Providers are encouraged to use virtual care whenever appropriate—and Ontario’s Ministry of Health has introduced temporary billing codes and procedures to support that effort. More information on the temporary billing codes, including useful resources and frequently asked questions, can be found here.

Virtual visits can help:

  • Screen patients
  • Gather patient history, including travel and exposure detail
  • Assess symptoms, severity and treatment options
  • Monitor progress and check in on patients in isolation
  • Communicate with multiple people at once, including family members and/or caregivers
  • Connect with colleagues to share information and seek additional clinical input/advice

OTN is working with its health system partners, including the Ministry of Health, Ontario Health Teams and doctors, to provide safe, effective and appropriate care during the COVID-19 outbreak. Here, we have assembled additional resources for patients and providers.

If you are a patient and you believe that you may be experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please call TeleHealth Ontario or your health care provider. Please note that OTN cannot book appointments for patients.

Additional, up-to date information on COVID-19, including a patient self-assessment tool, can be found on the Ministry of Health’s dedicated website.
